Yesterday I noticed a new sign in front of the complex housing Starbucks, Perfectly Pressed Juice and Mundos 2 cafe in Marina. Surely there could not be another sandwich shop in this building, so I pulled in to investigate. Though there are still a couple Mundos logo signs, the cafe has been rebranded as Crazys Sandwich House. The menu is the same, the website is still MundosSandwichShop.com, and I believe that one of the Mundo brothers took my order.
I asked why the name change, and was told that too many assumed that it was a Mexican restaurant. Only this location has a new name, the other two are still Mundos for now. I suspect that the rep for inconsistency in service and food here might have been a factor in rebooting too.
This was actually my first time to the Marina location, and I ordered my usual Mundo sandwich creation, the Argentinean: warm brisket, chimichurri sauce, tomatoes and melted cheese on ciabatta, $8.99. The brisket's tender as can be and deeply beefy. This one was equally delicious and seemed a bit more generously packed than the last time I got one at the original on Fremont Blvd. It was certainly big enough to share though not as gargantuan as Compagno's sandwiches. So I can say that this is a change for the better, if they can keep it up.
