All this Rittenhouse Row festival talk about bad or overpriced crabcakes begs the question -- where are the best crabcakes in the city (with a Center City bent).
I haven't tried them at too many places, but the best ones I've had were at the now-defunct 2nd reincarnation of "Fishmarket" at 18th / Sansom. Not inexpensive, but probably 90% crab with just enough filler to barely hold it together and nicely spiced too. I think it was $18.
Probably there should be two categories -- best "upscale" crabcakes (mostly recognizable crab meat, expensive) and best "downscale" (crab-flavored breaded hockey puck shape, with 0 - 30% crab at best, tasty, found in diners, etc.)
