I have always been a proponent of The Counter since it opened. I really like their hamburgers and choice of toppings, my only complaint being their inability to cook the meat properly – always overdone. They just can’t seem to get it right no matter how many times you tell them you want it ‘rare’ or ‘medium rare’. I went yesterday with a friend. I ordered my burger rare, and my companion his medium rare. I told the cashier several times that I really wanted it rare, she acknowledged it and before, I walked away, I again reminded her “ be sure it's RARE”!!

Needless to say, my burger had a VERY THIN line of red in the center, more medium well than medium rare! My friends ‘medium rare’ had more pink than mine, it was actually medium. I give up!! Even a huge chain like The Cheesecake Factory cooks the meat to perfection – every time!!!

Now, as if that wasn’t enough, (I don’t know if they’ve raised their prices or not), but two burgers, two side salads and 2 drinks came to $28 and change. I left a $1 in the tip box, so lunch for two was almost $30!! And just for a couple of salads and burgers!! Outrageous!! Houston’s - with a tip - is cheaper than that!

I might be able to get past the price if I got the food cooked to order, but put them together and I’m through with The Counter.
