As Ive said before, I like the Hamburgers at the Counter. In the mood for a good burger, I went there today for lunch,
I opted for The counter over Houstons for 4 reasons: 1) the parking is a lot easier; 2) they have a 2/3 lb. Burger, 3) Its closer to my office and 3) it isnt as expensive.
As to the parking, no problem (I go early which makes it easier). The patty size is definitely bigger, but as to the price, it misses the mark. A 2/3 burger with no special extras (just cheese, onions and tomatoes), a small salad and a drink was over $13.00! One good point is that no tip was required which does help bring it a little closer in price - definitely not as expensive as Houston's - but still pricey in my opinion.
However, the last couple of times Ive gone there Ive had a problem with them cooking the burger correctly. When I ordered it medium rare it came out medium, so this time I ordered it rare; in fact, I even mentioned it again when finished ordering that I wanted it rare. I also ordered onions well done since if theyre underdone they leave an onioney taste in my mouth.
Well, once again the meat was not cooked as ordered. This is getting tiresome. The burger was cooked basically medium to medium well, with pink only deep in the center which would make it medium, but not even medium rare).
Of course, the onions were far from well done, in fact, just a notch above rare. I can still taste them.
Yes, I know I could send it back, but is there any assurance it will come out any better? Also, the orders seem to take a while there and who wants to sit there for such a long time hungry and waiting to eat.
I seriously wonder why I keep going back. While I do like their hamburger, I guess my expectation is that one of these times theyll get it right and Ill be in hamburger heaven!
Has anyone else experienced this problem here? Does anyone know where I can get an oversized burger with out the parking problems and high prices (like Cheesecake Factory, Grand Lux, ect)?
