Seven Corners Round Up - Old Standbys while Convalescing

Steve | Dec 1, 201610:38 AM     11

During three weeks recuperating from surgery, I decided to hit up as many old standbys as I could, all within an easy drive form the Seven Corners area of Falls Church/Arlington.

Lebanese Butcher
This former restaurant and butcher shop is now just a tiny butcher shop and market. But they still have a few prepared items. Their vegetarian stuffed grape leaves are a revelation. As good as they get. The kibbeh here is stuffed with chicken and is also first-rate.

Nha Trang
Hidden within one of the interior corridors of Eden Center, the special garden rolls here are stuffed with delicious grilled sausage and a savory cookie, and served with an addictive orange sauce. The Mi Quay is a noodle soup with a chicken-y broth/gravy. The food here epitomizes the lightness and deliciousness of Vietnamese cuisine.

Popeye's
It had been so long since I last went to Popeye's, but I see why I loved it both then and now. The mild breast and wing are a true Chowhound delight.

Amoo's
This place still delivers as the premier spot for Persian delights. To get the full effect, it pays to over-order and get the torshi (pickles), yoghurt, bedamdjan, plus kabobs and stews. The specials are expensive but worth it.

Myanmar
The ginger salad remains one of the great dishes in all of Chowhounding. The kaukswee is a chicken noodle soup wit the noodles served separately from the thick golden gravy with tons of hardboiled egg. Very rich, unique, and delicious.

New Orleans Cajun Seafood
The fried oyster po boy is still good, though it does not hit all the right notes like it used to. This was the first time I tried their fries, and the skin-on version here is exceptional.

Pupatella
Burrata pizza is a consistent special here. The pizza was super delicious, though the burrata itself seemed a bit more funky and to have a 'whipped' texture.

District Taco
This used to be a good neighborhood joint. Now since expansion, I am not sure it is even that. I doubt I'll return.
