Copper & SS lining separation

I've heard it mentioned frequently that one of the "risks" of buying the copper/SS bimetal is that one day the two metals might separate. Has this ever actually been documented? I've seen some pretty old and abused looking stainless lined copper on eBay, and not one has ever appeared to have its SS lining splitting away from the copper.
