A new kitchenware store has opened in Noe Valley. It's called Cook's Boulevard and is on Castro Street just off 24th. It's fairly small with a somewhat limited selection (i.e., it's not nearly as large or well-stocked as Sur La Table or Williams Sonoma), but it has a pretty decent selection of cookware, bakeware, and other kitchen equipment. They carry some All Clad stuff, as well as more budget-minded pieces.
They also have a small selection of gourmet items like vinegars, oils, mustards, preserves, salts, sugars, etc. I haven't yet noticed anything unique in that department.
But the place definitely has an air of practicality, rather than many other botique kitchen stores that just carry lots of pretty and expensive knick-nacks. More of a place to buy yourself something to use in the kitchen, instead of a cute gift for somebody else, if you know what I'm saying.
I'm happy it's there. On several occasions already I've been able to quickly pick up a specific piece of equipment when struck with a sudden desire to try making a new dish. I never liked having to spend a half hour in the car or on a bus just to go to City Discount to buy a miniature tart pan or pasta cutter. So I guess if you live in the area and there's no closer kitchen store, or if you'd just rather buy from a small outfit than a chain store, it would be worth checking out.
