Cooking for a Crowd - Keeping Food Warm

I am new to the whole thing of having people over for dinner. I absolutely LOVE cooking for family and friends but I need some help. In December we had our parents over for dinner and I made a delicious dinner. I cooked A LOT of food. Most of it required baking and included salmon, baked mac and cheese, baked cheddar bay biscuits, baked appetizers of mozzarella sticks and sauteed asparagus. I also served cold appetizers and a salad as a first course. After dinner, I served 3 types of desserts. We had wine and beer for drinks. Everyone loved the food but clearly it was a lot. I used the "keep warm" option in my oven but I feel like it overcooked my food a little and I wasn't happy about that. What are some tips to having people over for dinner? Do you not make as much food? How do you keep the food warm without it overcooking? Do you cook while they are waiting? I plan to have friends and family over for dinner somewhat frequently so any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
