Cooking Channel's "Unique Eats" - Los Angeles Restaurant/Truck List

maiweezy | Jan 2, 201107:36 PM

Inspired by pharmnerd's thread "Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Ate". What have you tried in L.A.?" I've compiled a list of restaurants covered by Cooking Channel's show "Unique Eats". Unfortunately, I can't find a listing of what particular item or items are showcased for each restaurant but from the episodes I've seen/internet searches, I've put an asterisk on the items they spent a lot of time covering.

Episode 105: Small Plates
The Gorbals *bacon wrapped matzo balls, gribenes lettuce tomato sandwich
Grilled Cheese Truck *Cheesy Mac and Rib aka "the fully loaded", dessert melt w nutella, marshmallow and bananas

Episode 106: Adventure
World Fare Bus

Episode 107: Food Fantasy
The Bazaar * olive spheres, new tortilla espanola (63 degree egg w/potato foam), new philly cheese steaks, foie gras cotton candy
The Tea Room @ H.Wood *prohibition pina (coconut chai, pinneaple juice, simple syrup, coconut vodka), heirloom tea smoked tomatoes, tea cured salmon, rabbin loin w lemon verbena vinaigrette

Episode 108: Americana
Nickel Diner *maple glazed bacon covered brioche donuts, cream filled chocolate cupcakes, strawberry toaster pastries

Episode 109: Great Spaces
Kogi Truck

Episode 203: Cupcakes
Yummy Cupcakes, Burbank *Red Velvet 1/2 and 1/2 (cream cheese and cocoa cream cheese), brown sugar and cinnamon, cupcake biscotti, apple blue cheese

Episode 205: Burgers
Umami Burger, Santa Monica * Veggie Burger, Umami Burger, Sides

Episode 206: Ice Cream
Sweet Rose Creamery, Santa Monica *S'mores Pie

Episode 208: Chocolate
Valerie Confections

Episode 209: Street Food
Susan Feniger's Street

Episode 212: Drinks
LaMill *iced coffee

Episode 213: Small Plates

Too bad I don't find this list as interesting as Food Network's counterpart in terms of LA food coverage, even though I like this show better. Probably has to do with the fact that most of their personalities are located on the east coast. The only restaurant on this list I'm a big fan of that I've tried is The Gorbals and the Bazaar. AOC is on my list to try. No interest in Street. Nickel Diner is good if you're in the area but not worth a special trip, and I'm not an Umami fan at all. The Fully Loaded on the Griled Cheese truck is a good sandwich but also not something I'd go out of my way to seek out - same goes for Kogi, especially considering the lines for both. I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so I haven't tried any of the dessert spots. Hwood Tea Room seems interesting but yelp reviews indicate it's usually closed for special parties. Cooking Channel should recruit an LA chowhounder or chef to represent us properly!
