Cookie Misery. Please Help Me.

There was a time when the topography of my toll house cookies fresh from the oven vied with Nepal's for complexity and irregularity. And they cooled to an adored crispness. But for ten years I have been plagued by puffy soft cookies. Why? The recipe I use is whatever appears on the bag of chocolate chips I happen to be using, and no matter the brand I get the same results. Please tell me how I need to adjust the ratios of eggs to flour, of baking soda to sugar, of butter to flour, in order to espy once more a little bit of Kathmandu upon opening my oven door.
