best way to cook standing rib roast

We plan to purchase a 8-9 lb standing rib roast to make on New Year's Eve. Since we have never roasted one before we have been doing research. How do you do yours? We have come across quite a variation in the times temps etc...some say long and slow, some say fast and quick. Any help would be appreciated.
