To stay ever so remotely in touch with the New Orleans resturant scene and for the heavy vicarious thrill, I get a daily e-mail from a New Orleans food writer, Tom Fitzmorris.

In yesterdays issue, he writes at length (for this format) on resturants and regulars and places that serve as "communities". So, since no one else has offered their desert island places, I was wondering if people would offer their top ten places that are as special for their sense of community/the regulars as they are for the food. Obviously, we want places with both!
