B. F. Clyde's Cider Mill

Recommendation for a fall outing: Spend a weekend afternoon at B. F. Clyde's Cider Mill in Old Mystic, CT. This place is great. They've been pressing their own cider for something around 100 years, on a steam-powered press. Every couple of hours on fall weekends, they do a pressing and invite the public to watch. It's a fascinating, aromatic, and colorful process -- bring your camera.

After the pressing, head up to the store. They sell jugs of cider, bottles of wine, pumkins and gourds, and gourmet foodie items like maple syrup and spice mixes. But the best treat is to get a half-dozen hot apple cider donuts and a cup of hot cider or hot chocolate, and then sit out on the porch and enjoy.

The most unusual feature of Clyde's is hidden around the back of the mill...line up at the basement door, and you can purchase several different varieties of HARD cider. Even on Sunday.

Highly recommended!
