City Zen and Laboratorio Galileo Report

Last month before our trip to DC, I asked if CZ and LG were worth the money. I can now concur with everyone who responded that they are! Re City Zen - we arrived a bit frenzied as we were late, having gotten lost (we did call). They couldn't have been nicer, and after only a moment in the beautiful, candlelit room, all was well. We ordered the 3 course tasting menu, which was more than enough as they brought 4 amuse-bouches, delicious bite size buttery rolls, and a fantastic dessert wine, Degiorgis Moscato d'Asti. I had the artichoke salad, scallops and pineapple upsidedown cake. Had tastes of the top sirloin, pork, cheese platter and chocolate espresso dessert. All spectacular. At Laboratorio - amazing experience. We had 12 courses with their wine pairings. The standout courses were the Scallop Tartar with Celery, Vidalia Onions and Baby Arugula, Roasted Duck Liver served with Roasted Porcini and a Duck Jus (still dreaming about it!), Tempura Fried Soft Shell Crab served with Fennel Puree and a Bisque Sauce, and Cherry Parfait served with Cherry Sauce and Chocolate Foam (think Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia Ice Cream times 1,000). Thank you again to everyone on this board and to Roe for her Laboratorio pictures, we had two truly memorable dining experiences.
