We had a very nice dinner at Citron Fri.night. I was very impressed with the decor and the ambiance of the restaurant. Like something you would see in Portland or Seattle. I forgot I was in Fresno for awhile! LOL
We had a 7:00pm reservation and we were a little late due to a water polo tournament. I checked in at the desk, but somehow the hostess mis-understood and we were kept waiting for about twenty minutes. She thought we were waiting for someone to arrive.
We were seated at a very nice booth in the back of the restaurant. The tables are kind of strange, you can't cross your legs, there wasn't enough room under the table, IMO. But the tables are beautifully decorated with nice soft leather on the chairs/booths.
We started with an appetizer of Millefeuille (French puff pastry) of mushrooms, Roquefort cheese in a sherry cream sauce. This was very good!
The salads that come with the entree are excellent. Greens with fresh citrus fruit and citrus dressing. Very unique flavors, very nice.
My DH ordered the fillet Mignon, sweet red onion & melted bleu cheese & brandy jus. When his entree first arrived, it was a bit on the cool side, so he had it sent back to the kitchen. The server was very accomodating and a new plate arrived quickly.
I ordered the grilled fillet of Sea Bass, vegetable Nicoise with Rice & Brandy Bisque. The portion was rather large, so I took some home. The dish was good, but I can't say I would hurry back to order it again.
We shared a glass of Pinot Noir, which was very nice. The wine list BTG is rather limited. For dessert we shared the orange creme brulee which was beautifully presented.
I was a bit disappointed with the texture of the creme brulle, tho. I was expecting the silky smooth inside, but the texture was rather lumpy. I can't say I would order this again, either.
The dessert menu featured many unique and interesting items, I'll have to go back and try some of them. The dining experience was about two and a half hours which was nice and relaxing.
I will return again, to try some new menu items. This place is doing very well thus far, the dining room was full and everyone seemed content and happy.
The quality of the food isn't as good as Campagnia, which thus far remains my favorite Fresno eatery. The bill for two with a $20 discount was $50.00 I would recommend this Continental Bistro to anyone in the area.
