I finally checked out Alfred Schilling's new place on Broadway in the old Carl Jr.
He has a really interesting New Year's Eve ($45) and Christmas Eve ($35) menu. The candy shop is downstairs and looks pretty much like the old Market Street location. There are these absolutely wonderful Marzipan deer for Christmas as well as Christmas stollen and other holiday candies in addition to the regular line.
Hate to mention a place I haven't eaten yet, but if anyone needs to make last minute plans for either holiday, you might check out the Schilling menu.
Unfortunately there's no web site and there were no hand out holiday menus other than those posted on the door.
There were copies of the regular menu which includes:
Lobster bisque with asparagus seafood terrain. Tarragon creamy foam ($8.50).
Baked Halibut, sweet pea puree, smoked salmon chips ($12).
Filet Gorgonzola. zucchini mousse, oven dried tomato Merlot-carrot infusion ($15).
Duck Confit, Home made saurkraut, Pomme, Jus de Canard ($9.50)
Goat cheese, maple syrup and walnuts ($4.50)
White and dark chocolate mousse. mint, chocolate cake, milk chocolate spaghetti (6.50)
Gorgonzola Creme Brulee (&7)
Sounds like Schilling has been influenced by a certain Spanish chef.
There is also a seafood cold bar.
If you have money to burn there is a caviar tasting menu for $170. One oz. each of Beluga, Osciestra, Sevruga, toasted brioche, red onions quail eggs, Sour cream, 24k gold leaf, Absolut citron granite.
