Finally got a chance to check this offshoot in Inman Square, next to the ice cream shop. They have a really impressive range of whole and ground spices (including many obscurities like Nigella seed) tons of whole dried chilis, a good selection of hot sauces, oils and other condimenti. They opened about two weeks ago and even though they still haven't fully stocked the place, it looks to me like a sure hit. I don't know if they live and breathe spices like the folks at Penzey's, but the initial selection indicates that they've taken it quite seriously (and their unrivalled reputation for quality in the ice cream business bodes well too.) Wouldn't it be great if we end up with something like The Spice House right in our backyard?
And by the way, they have Szechwan Peppercorns.
(Sorry if this is old news. I did a search.)
