Chowhound Site History for 9/11

Melanie Wong | Sep 10, 201511:13 PM     4

On the East Coast of the United States, the calendar has already turned to September 11. Each year at this time, I return to our conversations surrounding the terrorist attacks to commemorate the terrible events of that day. Many of those threads were taken down but some still remain and show this community in its finest hour.

Trying to find the place where I had archived them on the Site Feedback board was not easy. And at first I was entirely devastated to not be able to locate the posts. But fortunately, google found them. So I guess this is a bug report of sorts to say that the site search engine cannot parse "9/11", it was difficult to search on this board specifically, and I couldn't find a way to limit the time period.

I'll give my old post of Sept 11, 2009 a new home right here:
"I hadn't been particularly motivated to post to this thread until today, 9/11, and remembering where I was 8 years ago. Like "coll" I think that the chowhound community's response was this site's finest hour. Many of the threads disappeared during the software conversion, but this one lives on and I hope it will stay put.

The community here is what makes Chowhound different from anonymous restaurant rating systems."

Adding in more of the posts of that era that I located September 11, 2011:
"Today on the anniversary of 9/11, I looked back at that DC thread and also found some of the ones that still remain on the Manhattan board. I thought I'd add them here for the community to reflect on together in remembrance once again.

I've also continued to mark the day by patronizing a Muslim small business and feasting on Islamic cuisine, as we did in 2001. Please report back to your regions if you do too.
