Chow at Irish Bank? (The Guinness is good)...

Last week after a meeting at one of the Union Square hotels, a friend recommended we meet for a debriefing pint at Irish Bank, which is an Irish Bar (natch)...located in an alley near the corner of Bush and Grant....I had to mention it because I've lived in the City for four years now, in the bay area most of my life, worked in the FiDi for years, and somehow never knew this place existed until Wednesday! As a bar, it's terrific: aside from the Guinness, Harp and other good pints, they have a nice single malt selection, outdoor tables (which were perfect in the warm weather other than the congregation of smokers there), plus at least two rather dark but cozy indoor rooms, and the (Irish) bartender knew how to pour a Guinness. Best yet, either their regular beer prices are low, or they were having happy hour specials, because I got back LOTS of change from the $10 I gave him for my Guinness (I wasn't paying very close attention, but I think it was only $2 or $3).

Anyway, wanted to mention it in case I am not the only clueless person who doesn't know about it...and am curious what hounds think of the food? I was meeting hubby later for dinner, so I didn't try anything, but they have a full menu of traditional pub specials, plus steak and such, as well as bar snacks, at prices that are quite reasonable, especially for that neighborhood. It seems to me that if the food is good it would be a logical addition to the reasonable food near Union Square list. With at least two well-placed TVs over the bar, it would be a good choice to watch a game as well.

By the way, don't be put off by the 'best Corporate pub' or description to that effect, on the website link below. At least on the night I was there, it was very low key and not at all 'corporate'....

so, thoughts on the food would be welcome. How is it?
