My motives in posting are impure: as much as wanting to share a special treat with fellow chocoholics, I want to ensure sufficient demand for this product so that Whole Foods continues to import it. (Thus saving me the indefinite wait until I can return to Perigord, where I first tasted this regional specialty many years ago.)
Imagine lightly roasted French walnuts, their fragance sealed in by a caramel skin so thin that I may be imagining it, all coated with a dense, bittersweet chocolate of excellent quality, and finished with a dusting of cocoa. . .
When these "Truffled Walnuts" suddenly appeared in those pedestrian Whole Foods boxes, near the cheese counter, I was sceptical. But I bought one, and. . . Eureka! Stocks seem to be running low, and I don't know whether more will reappear. (I can assure you, though, that my next visit will result in a significant dent in the inventory.)
