Chocolate cake-what to fill/frost with

Hello all,

Since everyone here has had such great suggestions in the past, I figured I'd turn to you for my latest question. I just found out that I need to make a cake for a coworker on Wednesday. All I know about her preferences is that a chocolate cake would be preferable to another flavor. I have the cake recipe all set, so am not seeking that. However, I'm a bit stumped as to what to fill/frost the cake with, since I've been baking quite a few cakes lately for work and feel like trying something different.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for a filling and frosting for this cake? The cake is the Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate layer cake, whose recipe can be found on the back of the cocoa box. Note: this is my go-to chocolate cake...so easy and delicious. Anyway, I'm open to using the Chocolate Buttercream recipe also on the back of the cocoa box as either the filling or the frosting, but I'd prefer to have something different on the outside than on the inside. Any relatively inexpensive and relatively stable (i.e. no whipped cream) suggestions would be excellent for this particular cake. Also, something that's likely to have universal appeal rather than be too unusual would be preferable, given that I don't know much about the birthday girl's tastes.
