Help with Chinese noodles!

Yesterday I tried the dry noodle spicy pork in Peking sauce with "soup on side" at the ABC Bakery on 32nd and Noriega. Other patrons around me were being served similar dishes, eating the noodles or wonton, but seemingly, ignoring the bowl of brooth. Can anyone tell me whether the noodles and soup are supposed to be eaten separately or combined pho style? I did a little of each and then realized that putting the noodles and pork into the brooth might be like putting linguini into the minestroni at an Italian restaurant. The dish was a little too dry and fat laden for my taste and at $5.95 was no bargain.
