Chinese Muslim, SF-style?

Marc | Dec 9, 200312:25 AM

Following up on the recent thread about Uighur restaurants: I'm the fellow who is looking for Chinese Muslim food in NYC similar to the cuisine I fell in love with at San Francisco's Old Mandarin (at the far western edge of Vicente). I looked at the VV review of the Uighur Cafe Kashkar in Brighton Beach, and while it sounds delicious it's a far cry from the Xinjiang food I had at Old Mandarin: a hot-pot with lots of lamb and a sesame-paste dipping sauce, and a desert of rice-flour buns filled with subtly flavored red-bean paste (with hints of walnut and pomegranate).

Maybe this is the food of some other Western Chinese ethnic group? I'll be grateful for any suggestions or leads to follow up ...
