Chinese Banquet Report

A group of 18 'hounds and others of similar persuasion gathered at Hollywood East in Wheaton in Wheaton last Saturday eve. for a full-blown pre-arranged Chinese banquet. All agreed it was a fabulous meal, with some truly exceptional dishes. Standouts for me among the 13 courses were the King of the Seas (a mixed seafood platter featuring Vancouver dungeness crab), the suckling pig served Peking-duck style, and the scallops on the half shell. The firecrack whole boneless fish was, unfortunately, overdone but impressive nonetheless. The starters, consisting of platters of steamed and fried dim sum, and a chilled meat platter, were also standouts. While meals like this are, sadly, not cheap, the total experience, including the special service and the platter decoration, lived up to its once-in-a-lifetime expectation.
