chinatown culinary tour?

malcolm | Feb 16, 2005 04:47 PM

I have a friend visiting from out of town who wants to spend some time next week trolling through Chinatown. She's a food-lover, and I'd like to show her some of the area's culinary highlights. Does anyone have suggestions for places to go and things to see and do? (Or do you know of any web sites or other resources that address this subject?) I have a spotty knowledge myself: I like those little sweet fried balls sold from street carts; I've been to the dumpling shop on Mosco St. that Calvin Trillin endorses; I'll probably take my friend to one of the bumble tea joints on Mott St. Beyond that, I need some guidance. Any great markets, stand-out pastry shops, or other culinary curiosities?

A thousand thanks for your help!
