It's interesting that you mention Banyan Garden because I was peeking thru the window couple days ago while going to China Tofu also located in the same complex. China Tofu closed down for remodelling recently but reopened. It is as good as I remembered it. The decor is improved. Gone is the steam table but the menu has lots of similarities. Huge portion and unbelievably cheap. The cooking is homestyle.
Hot sour soup (free): big bowl of delicious hot sour soup with strips of tofu, just the right consistency of broth and eggs. And it's free.
Beef in claypot: this place seems to be strong in this category from looking at other tables. The beef was tenderly delicious. The sauce reminds me of szechuan style cooking with lots of red chiles. Sliced leeks adorn the dish. $5.99
Kung pau chicken: a winner here. Delicious saucing and good proportion of peanuts. $3.99 huge portion
Pork chop (fried): breaded pork chop deep fried with sprinkles of tiny slices of jalapenos and lots of garlics. Quite good IMO. $3.99
Tofu with carrots and corn: a very simple dish with soft tofu cubes, carrot slices and few corn kernels sprinkled in a thickened sauce. Still quite tasty. $3.99
