New China Pearl woburn dim sum

noodlely | Jun 16, 2009 12:08 PM

We went for dim sum this weekend. We haven't been here for dim sum in a while because the wait was always lengthy and there wasn't as much variety as Jin's. So we were pleasantly surprised this weekend. Not only was the wait only minutes the dim sum was decent. The carts came often with a good variety of dishes. They also came around to ask us if we wanted something we didn't see. Actually the wait staff was great for a dim sum place. My husband orders in cantonese so not sure what everything is in english...
Shu mai, hargow, fried taro with shrimp, sweet tofu, custard buns, mango dofu, sticky rice, rice with chicken and sausage in a leaf, shrimp in a long noodle, fried shrimp with salt, chinese broccoli, congee ... are what I remember. Everything was hot and tasted fresh. Lately the dim sum at Jin's has been stale and cold. The last time we were there it took so long for the food to come around that we gave up and they weren't that busy (they definitely do not have enough carts for the amount of people they serve at Jin's. Though Jin's has way more sweet dim sum choices).

btw: new china pearl is under new management which was evident! They also serve dim sum during the week from a limited menu from 11-3pm. B/c someone will ask they charge $2 for tea but this is pretty typical. They do give you a choice of tea (you need to ask and jin's does too). Yeah another dim sum place outside of boston! Though I bet the place will be packed once h mart opens. Its pretty common for chinese families to go out for dim sum and then shopping on the weekends (at least if they are like all of our family/friends in Toronto. We used to go every single weekend!).
