A friend asked me to write down my favorite Chinese places in the SGV. Here's what I came up with, but I would love to hear what others think.


Mei Long Village, San Gabriel(soup dumpling – Xiao Long Bao, potstckers, braised fish, jade shrimp, pork rump, lion’s head meatball, spare ribs)


Chung King, Alhambra (water boiled beef, mapo tufu, chongquing chicken, tea smoked duck)
Lucky Dragon, Lucky Dragon (321 W. Garvey Ave., Monterey Park; (626) 573-5060
Best Szechuan, Alhambra (seafood)

Noodles/Dumplings/Wonton Soup

Heavy Noodling, Monterey Park (great dumplings, hand-cut noodles and Cat's Ear noodles)
Dumpling 10053, San Gabriel
Din Tai Fung (dumplings, chicken soup)



Sam Woo, many locations, inexpensive and real good
Lucky Deli, Chinatown, v. good BBQ roast pork, duck


Triumphal Palace, Alhambra (great dinner and dim sum)
Ocean Star, Monterey Park (dim sum)
NBC, Monterey Park
Capital Seafood, Monterey Park
Mission 261, San Gabriel (dim sum)
Embassy Chinese Restaurant, San Gabriel (not much to look at, but v good par-fried noodles, seafood etc)
Sea Harbour, San Gabriel
New Concept, Monterey Park
