Markets & Stores

Chicago's Ethnic Food Shopping

Querencia | May 24, 202101:34 AM     8

I wanted to put this on Chicago board but it seems to be going on Markets & Stores. For anyone who may be new in town: 1) Indian grocery neighborhood is Devon Avenue for a few blocks west of Western. 2) Vietnamese and Thai markets are on N Broadway around Argyle---one of the biggest is in the strip mall opposite the post office and another big one is at the rear of a parking lot. 3) Chinatown has some food markets but the N Broadway area has all the same products. 4) The big Shop & Save at S Archer and Leland has aisle after aisle of Eastern European products. Same neighborhood has Racine Bakery (Lithuanian, and also has a deli), Pticek & Son Bakery, and Weber Bakery, all with Eastern European breads. 5) Caputo's, Harlem and Grand/Fullerton where they run together, has many aisles of products imported from Italy, a small Italian bakery department, a huge selection of Italian deli. 6) Tony's Finer Foods (see online for multiple locations) has Hispanic products. 7) Harvest Time Market (Lawrence one block west of Rockwell) is multi-ethnic with maybe a slight lean toward Greek and Balkan. 8) Sahar Market (strip mall on NE corner Lawrence & Kedzie) is Turkish and Persian. 9) Middle Eastern Bakery (Clark & Foster) pan-Middle Eastern, bakes own pita. This list could go on forever in this super food-shopping town. I hope others will add to my list.
