Cherry update at the San Mateo Farmers Market

Larry Stein | May 24, 200302:53 PM

The stand I was thinking of in a previous post is Joe Gotelli & Sons. All they sell is cherries. Once cherry season is over, Gotelli doesn't return until the following year. They also sell at Vallco (Cupertino) and Belmont. I'm sure other Bay Area markets, too. This week they had Brooks ($3/lb), Golden Rainers ($4.25, will be cheaper next week), Tulares ($3.75) and a variety that starts with an "I" ($4.25, also cheaper next week and no sign. I didn't quite hear what she called them).

Also, the first good white peaches of the season. Also, some excellent strawberries (finally!). Those April and May rains really wreaked havoc on that crop. Fortunately, prices have been good ($4/3 baskets).
