Chengdu Heaven update

Hello guys. I went to Chengdu Heaven today (other updates include the fact that the Oaxacan tamale cart under the bridge on 61st st in Woodside has some insanely good enormous Oaxacan tamales, that Srip is still awesome, that I still love Ghoroa, etc, etc.) I've got bad news regarding menu number 1 (aka the one that has all of the major awesome delicious incredible Sichuan main dishes.) The cook who does all of these and who is always absent on Mondays and Thursdays is away for 2 weeks. The woman was pretty much only able to say "no more" while pointing at that menu, "home" while moving her hand like a plane, and then used the calendar to help herself say "2 weeks." I have a feeling (and it would make sense) that he might be visiting family in Sichuan in the wake of this month's devastating earthquake, but that's more educated guess than anything else.

All in all I was forced to menus 1 and 2. I ordered the ma la shredded stomach (6th down on 2 at 6 bucks. Oh yeah, they raised prices on a few dishes.) I also ordered the wontons in chili oil. Both were delicious, the shredded stomach still being my absolute favorite cold dish at Chengdu Heaven. It's almost bacon-y despite being tripe (though a tripe unlike any I had seen before this dish. Pork tripe maybe?) The wontons were made to order (dough included, I was surprised) and were delicious. Nice pork and chive filling with the added benefit of about a gallon of chili oil.
