At the recommendation of cooking buddy for low cost Chinese comfort food we tried a newly opened Asia Village located in the corner of strip mall off of Wolfe Road and San Francisco Road in Sunnyvale. It is next to the Safeway, which anchor this center.
The have a four pages menu in both Chinese and English of Cantonese and Vietnamese dishes for $5.00 each. We have been there three times and found the food good, cheap and reminds me of what my Mother would cook. Mrs. Yimster has said that they cook cheaper than we could at home and we can save our effort.
If you go ask the owner/server what are the daily specials are. We had two yesterday and they were very good and interesting. One was twice cooked Roast Pig with black beans (a common trick to reuse leftover Roast Pig) very good. Also we had a steamed garlic shrimp over rolled rice noodles. These dishes are $6.00 each. They serve you a free house soup, which they will refill if you ask. Yesterday they served us watercress soup.
Some of the other dishes we have had the following dishes on our past visits:
Steamed Pork Hash with Salted Fish
Salt and Pepper Fish
Salt and Pepper Shrimp
Salt and Pepper Squid
Salt and Pepper Pork Chops
Honey Garlic Pork Chops
Beef Stew in a Clay Pot
Dry Scallop and Shrimp Tofu Clay Pot
Stir Fry Frog with String Beans
Thai Curry Chicken
All these dishes are five dollars each. They are not huge serving but large enough for the price. Also there is a full Chinese and Vietnamese menu but we have never gotten pass the special menu. We were told that not all the Vietnamese dishes are available because there is not a lot of request for them.
If you order two dishes per person it is more than I can eat. In the past we have order two dish per person and one or two dishes to go and we have the leftover and the new dishes for dinner. They have been opened for three months only. They are closed on Mondays.
So four of us ate our full for about forty bucks before tax and tip.
