Recently we had a spurt over over-indulgence and tried a lot of new places. Most were just new to us. I didn't get to try as many international foods as I wanted as I didn't have a willing partner but I'm still going to make it there on my own soon.
Hope it helps.
Peppervine, Southpark - This place had a lot of press before it opened so maybe my expectations were a little high. It is pretty inside. The wine by glass prices are reasonable, and they offer two sizes of pours. The food was very good, with the exception of one appetizer that we tried ( the "fried chicken" which sounded interesting but I think was really their safe option and actually pretty underwhelming). The entrees were obviously prepared with care, and very asty. It may well be one of the best places in Southpark, and it will impress your date, but for me, it didn't seem worth the effort of getting down to Southpark. There are other places in the price point I would rather go personally.
Bardo, Gold District - I have been trying to get here for a while so was very excited. We went on a Monday night and it was pretty quiet, and service was good. I like the space. It is narrow and from any of the seats, I think you could see into the open kitchen. The wine was expensive but the stemware was cheap, sort of a peeve of mine. We ordered probably 80% of what was offered on the menu that night (it is all small plates). While it feels a little late to the game on some things (so much foam!), I enjoyed nearly everything we ordered. The best was a crab and avocado dish with a tomatillo consomme. I like to try new things and this definitely checked that box. It was - I thought - a little overpriced.
Belle Helene, Uptown - If you need to have dinner uptown, then this is a fine choice. It was good, not great. I know there aren't many brasseries in CLT, so there isn't much to compare it to here, but compared to others in other cities...meh.
Havana Carolina, downtown Concord - Not the first time for us, but the first time in a while. Solid, tasty Cuban food. A decent crowd for a week night in downtown Concord really says something good about the place.
Felix Handmade Empanadas, Food truck - These, with some beer at Pour Taproom, was an incredibly tasty snack. I ate three like it was nothing and would like to do so again.
