Charlie Palmer Steak for RW

My wife and I had dinner last night at the Charlie Palmer Steakhouse on Capitol Hill. Overall, we were generally pleased. The food was good and the service outstanding. Everyone we spoke to/walked by greeted us with warm hellos and smiles.

Here's a rundown of what we ate:

Salmon Tartar with Curry Vinaigrette Amuse-Bouche: Delightfully fresh, light salmon with a curry-oil dressing. It needed just a little acid to make the flavor stand out.

Grilled Octopus Salad with Tangerine: Tasty, with good flavor provided by the fruit. I thought that the octopus required more seasoning, but then again I tend to over-salt my food.

Carrot Soup with Cardamom: A little too creamy (if that is possible); could have done with more broth to lighten the taste. When I complained that about the soup being lukewarm, the waitress apologized profusely and returned with a fresh, warm, and tastier bowl.

Charcoal-Grilled Strip Loin with Purple Potatoes: I found the meat to be rather gristly, but the mashed potatoes (while rudimentary) and sauce were both delicious

Chipotle-Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Garlic Polenta: Very juicy; the polenta could be more garlicky as it came off a little bland.

New York Cheesecake: Luscious, with a hint of lemon and a sumptuous filling. A perfect dessert.

Chocolate and Hazelnut Pave: Rich but delicious. Excellent with coffee.
