I've been a lifelong customer at Char Hung Sut, the famous manapua shop in Chinatown Honolulu. My parents moved to that neighborhood about a year ago so whenever I go home to visit, I make sure to stop by. Not any more!
First of all, the food is not the same as I remember. The meat filling in the manapua is much smaller and fattier. Same for the assorted dim sum. Plus, the shop, which was pretty dirty before, seems downright filthy these days.
But worse is the customer service. They've never been particularly friendly there, but the past few times I've gone, they've been downright rude! The straw that broke the camel's back was the other day when I asked the owner if they offered a bulk discount for a party--an innocent question--and he promptly chewed me out in front of a line of customers.
He said doesn't run his business so other people can benefit and that it's for LOCALS ONLY! What does THAT mean???
