Second Chance Pub in Columbia

Second Chance has been open in Columbia for a few months now. It's in Oakland Mills shopping center where Firerock Grill, and before that, Last Chance, used to be.

The service is quite good, the prices reasonable and the beer selection decent, though they do run out of things occasionally. The atmosphere is very "neighborhood place" with regulars greeted by name, darts, and a pool (er...billiards?) area. The only downside is it doesn't seem to be getting a lot of traffic. We were there one Thursday night and there probably wasn't't more than a dozen people in the place, which is a shame because it has a nice vibe.

The food was pretty good, better than average I would say. The chips are home made, a nice change from mass produce corn chips and go very well with the dips we've tried. I've had the chili there twice, the first time it was amazing - best chili I'd had in a long while. The second time it was good, but more conventionally good. I've heard they make their own chilli, and I'd certainly believe it from that first bowl, but it does seem to differ from time to time. The spinach and artichoke dip was very good as well, with just the right proportions. The burgers were enjoyable and the wing sauce was tasty and nicely spiced, but the wings themselves have sometimes been overcooked. Still, the sauce is good enough that I keep ordering them, and the occasional overcooked is better than undercooked.

I hope this place is able to stay around. It's a comfortable place to hang out in and have an informal meal. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable.
