Where to celebrate a raise?

Ben Covelo | Mar 12, 2001 09:50 AM

Hi. I recently got a raise (yay!) and want to take my two roommates out to celebrate. We'd like a new food experience, so I'm looking for recommendations. Let me give you a sense of what kinds of places I'm looking for:

Cozy is great, and ambience is key. I'd like a place that's good for conversation, mellow, friendly, sensual. Someplace like Blah Blah in Park Slope, if you happen to know that one (and if you don't, you should -- truly a wonderful dining experience, that).

I'm not looking for any one cuisine, but good food is obviously also key, and good wine is a big, big plus. Greek, Italian, French, fusion, American, Japanese, whatever. But good, good, good! We particularly go for the elegantly simple -- a perfectly seasoned bowl of perfectly tender mussels is more satisfying to me than an elaborately architectural pastry shell. That's not to say that sophisticated blends and flavors are no good, just that showiness is not the point.

I'd like to stay under $100 per person, if possible, but if you know someplace perfect and pricier, do tell.

So, I'm *sure* you chowhounds have ideas. I look forward to hearing them.
