Last week I asked where I should eat lunch close to Ikea on Saturday. Thanks to Chowhound, I was planning on going to one of two BBQ restaurants until my family seemed unhappy with the prospect of BBQ, so I googled for something else.
We ended up at C.B. O'Hanley's Table and Tap on Rt 28 in West Bridgewater and had a great meal. A lot of the menu is standard pub fare, but it was better than a lot of pubs I've been to. First, they have Smithwicks on tap which is great. I had the fish and chips--it was fresh cod fried very lightly over seasoned (mostly salt + pepper and not overdone) fries. The cole slaw was great and not the standard stuff scooped out of a tub -- it tasted fresh and was made with red cabbage and carrots. This was $8.
Other folks had the Sheppards Pie (made with beef) ($8) served in a bread bowl and said it was quite good and the Crab Cakes were raved about, as well.
The Donegal Baked Goat Cheese appetizer was excellent -- goat cheese rolled in crushed pistachios and served over a thin slab of grilled eggplant with olive oil + balsamic drizzled over it.
All of the meals were presented nicely and the waitress was very attentive.
While we were there a fella came in with his guitar and played Irish music with two others joining by the time we left. I think they have music there fairly often. They were more than happy to take requests and played "Dirty Old Town" for us when we asked.
Something was said either about them only having expanded the restaurant a few months ago or only opening a few months ago. I think it was the latter. There was a good sized bar with maybe 3 plasma tvs showing the Red Sox game while we were there.
I'd definitely recommend this place. I live an hour away, so I'm not sure how often I'll find myself back. If it were closer I'd surely be back soon -- the food was quite good and the prices were more than decent.
