Catching up. Padrino's closed down. I'm not surprised after my last experience there.
Starting to get out from under at work, so I can think about the rest of my life. You know eating, cooking etc.
Sunday in Pass Christian Mama Gina cooked us some filets from a a rather large drum (Frank Sr. said that when he caught it, it weighed about 15 pounds). Topped with slices of grilled lemon, black olives and peperoncin' (the hot kind) and in a very piquant raw tomato sauce. Heavenly. I don't have the recipe, we were in a rush to get to Beau Rivage and gamble. We caught the blackjack fever in St. Martin's. At least, I don't have the recipe YET.
Two girl friends took me to Bravo Saturday. Food was better than I remember. I had the Penne with Bolognese
Sauce. Really very good.
Saturday evening, some friends came over and we grilled some steaks. One of Frank's oldest buddies - they've been friends since elementary school, now they're 35 years old - has taken up with the most unsuitable 18 year old shampoo girl. Interestingly enough, in between knocking back shots of tequila
Saturday she mentioned her father's name, and he's rather a well known owner of restaurants around town. I won't mention any names. This girl has a very WILD case of rebellion. Frank says the word is that she's VERY wild and she's had a very bad life so far. I asked for dish but none's been forthcoming. However, I've seen to it that he understands the importance of my knowing what all this is about.
Other recent restaurant trips included a dinner at Rio Mar where Frank Jr. and I had the fabulous razor clam appetizer and the garlic soup before sharing a SMALL baked sea bass. Very nice meal. I'm going to try and
make Rio Mar a Friday tapas lunch destination for the entire month of Auugust.
We'll be over at Pass Christian with Frank Sr. and Mama Gina most weekends or at least on Sundays. Hope to have more recipes to bring to the board if people are interested.
