casual weekend eats review

i've lived in l.a. almost ten years and finally had the pleasure of dining at roscoe's chicken & waffles on friday eve. this greatly revered institution deserves its praise. the crowds and noise are just part of its charm. first time there so of course i ordered way too much (but i've already got my order ready for next time).

i had #13, breast and wing and two waffles. i have not had such good fried chicken in years. crispy, juicy, not at all greasy and flavorful. the waffles were nice and light. we also got a side of candy yams which i'd skip next time, a little too starchy for my liking and a huge piece of corn bread which i wish was just a bit more moist. but the star of the show was definitely the chicken!

saturday eve we went to cheebo. won't make that mistake again. although we did sit across from k.d. lang. 5:45 pm the place was virtually empty and still the service blew. and they screwed up our order several times. and before we knew it we had two pizzas (which were fine, nothing super) shared a ceasar salad and a bill of $43.00 with tax and tip. they comped us our iced teas because they kept screwing up. bottom line, don't go.

sunday morning got up early and tried doughboys on w. 3rd. the menu was vast. unfortunately the almond crusted french toast i ordered was not very good. much too dry and clawing with the honey almond butter syrup it's served with. although my bf loved his jellyroll omelete. i think i'd go back and try something else but first i'll try toast and quality.
