Casbah Cafe in Silverlake - i usually like it there..but...

breadlvr | Mar 20, 200602:42 AM

don't get me wrong. i'll go back. it's a quiet cafe where people talk in hushed voices to preserve the serene atmosphere. their chicken salad was yummy (very generously sized, all white meat, fresh greens, great balsamic vinegar dressing)and their valrhona hot chocolate is delicious (although once the guy didn't make it hot enough, but it's still far more superior than anything i've had at a chain coffee shop) and their merchandise is pretty cute (albeit sometimes overpriced). oh yes, and they have susina cakes there (so you don't have to trek all the way over to la brea when you're in silverlake)

i was there for lunch with a friend. i ordered the chicken salad and the server brought it to me with a slice of pound cake. i just assumed it was part of my lunch or my lucky day. i put the slice of cake in the bread basket to conserve space (we were sitting at a tiny tiny table). About 20 minutes later, the server comes back & tells me "no, this isn't yours," picked up the cake with a napkin, put the cake on another plate, and immediately served it to another patron!! not only was i offended because she insinuated that i took the cake on purpose, but she also served it to another person! she didn't even check to see if i took a bite or touched it (which i did when i transferred it). i thought it was poor food handling and customer service, but i figure it was a one-time deal. she seemed rather inexperienced (flustered when she tried to serve me someone else's caprese salad). ah well.. things happen. but it was pretty rude.
