New Caribbean place on Union/Carrol Gardens

I've been noticing for the past few weeks, every time I walk my dog down Union Street, what looked to be a new restaurant in the works right next to the former South Brooklyn Bagels (and the new heavenly Helen's). Today my suspicions were confirmed - it's going to be a Caribbean restaurant (I had kinda guessed that from the beachy/underwater theme in the window). I had a lovely conversation with the owner, and was given a sample of a "flourless muffin" which looked a bit odd and lumpy but was not only tasty, but very energizing, containing organic fruit and nuts and oats. "You can eat this for a meal," he told me, though clearly they have no intention of filling up their customers on just muffins...they plan to open this Saturday, but get this: starting at noon there will be free food galore, to bring people in from the neighborhood and let the food speak for itself. While I didn't have any of the more traditional Caribbean specialties they will be serving, I certainly intend to check it out...just wanted to alert everyone in the area that this is happening, so stop by and get a taste!
