Caramel Chews Fail! Help!

I made some caramel chews for the first time last night. I woke up this morning and checked to see how its tasted. It was sticky and didn't set good at all. I followed the recipe and instructions exactly. It's too thick to make into a sauce and too thin to hold it shape. Plus, I WANT MY CARAMEL CHEWS! What can I do to fix it?? Do I need to just throw it out and start over? Thanks in advance.

P.S. It was the kind that you make in the microwave.
