cape breton breakfast (long)

My husband and I live on Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia. Yesterday we went to the "famous" St. Georges Channel Community Centre's Sunday breakfast. St. Georges Channel is located about 20 km outside of Port Hawkesbury, very close to The Dundee Resort on The Bras D'or Lakes. The outside wind chill temperature was probably -20C or about 0 degrees F but the temperature inside the hall was nice and cosy warm. Three long tables were seated with people that came from near and afar. Breakfast was being served by a group of loyal volunteers and what a breakfast it was!! The kitchen chefs were busy preparing cheese, onion and mushroom omelettes, pancakes, saussages, homefries, wonderful home baked beans, toast, muffins, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea. This was an "all you could eat" breakfast for the total price of $6.00. Unbelievable! Now that we are stuffed we will just have to wait for one month from now when the next great breakfast will be served. The community was fortunate recently to be able to build a new community centre and it is so nice to see it being activily used for many events. It is a good example of what a very small rural community can do when they pull together. How wonderful it would be if this breakfast could be continued through the summer tourist months. All tourists have one thing in common they all love food!! I will put the bug in someone's ear and perhaps it will happen if you are lucky.
