Candied Bananas in Chinatown perhaps?

When I was growing up in LA my parents used to take me to this Chinese restaurant (it may have been Chinese run by Koreans). Anyway, for dessert there was this dish I loved where they brought out a plate full of sliced up bananas covered in a bubbly hot molten caramelized sugar. They also brought out a big bowl of ice water and then at the table the waiter dumped the bubbly hot syrup covered bananas in the ice water where the whole thing bubbled and steamed while the waiter stirred it up for about 5 seconds then he quickly scooped out the candied bananas which were soft and hot on the inside but now covered with a crackly hard candied shell.

Does anyone know anyplace in NYC that serves this dish or know a recipe for this? I've tried to replicate this dish based on my memory as a nine year old but needless to say, it was a flop. I must eat this again!!
