Calzone heaven in Redwood City

ChewToy | Dec 11, 2004 11:54 AM

If you want a sublime, New York style calzone without hopping on JetBlue get yourself to Lucia's Pizzeria on Woodside Rd. in Redwood City for a "combo" calzone. It's a monster, boasting, get this, a tangy pizza sauce, mozzarella, ham, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, onions and bell peppers. We nixed the bell peppers and added some ricotta. The beast comes out of their pizza oven all puffed up about 6 inches tall and close to a foot long. It's dark brown and blistery and makes that incredible 'crunch' sound when you cut into it to release the steam. Then it's all about oozy cheese, spicy meats and that wonderful crunch above and below. This is the real deal - not those sorry doughy versions you find most places.
Definitely bring a friend as the combo will humble any solo attempt. And it's yours for only $11.65.

1725 Woodside Rd.
