Coming back to Chicago after a full year abroad in Rome (sigh), but excited to eat some casual, American food in my hometown (and spend my own currency!)
After 365 days of amazing produce, pasta, meat, wine etc., I am beginning to have cravings for huge, loaded sandwiches with fries, hot dogs, and the like....Ethnic food is pretty NAST here.
I remember I liked Calliope Cafe a few years back after reading it on a "best sandwich" but no hounds have listed it (or even referred to it) for a best sub or anything. I thought it was good but maybe it is no longer there. Any ideas on the place? (It has been a while)
I am going to make the first week I get back a Chowhound extravaganza of (inexpensive-ish) American and ethnic foods. I am allowing myself 5 meals because I don't want to gain 15 pounds...maybe just 5....;)
