Cafe Shane in Prospect Heights

For anyone who's been seeing the "Shane's" awning up on Washington Ave (somewhere between Park and St. John's) and wondering when it's finally going to get around to becoming a restaurant...

So yesterday morning a guy walks up to me and my girlfriend on 7th ave. in Park Slope and gives us some business cards for the place--turns out it's Luther, the owner of sometime-to-be Cafe Shane (Shane's his son). Tells us he's been given the runaround from various city agencies and ran into a huge delay on construction, so in the meantime he went and opened a place in Atlanta. He said the Washington Ave spot (and a sister location on Fulton somewhere, though not sure if it's Ft. Green or the Stuy) is going to be "a cafe with African flair"; he's bringing in a chef from the Ivory Coast for said flair (along with offering crepes and other traditional 'cafe fare,' i suppose). He seemed genuinely nice, and genuinely excited about the place. Not sure exactly when it's supposed to open, but it does represent the potential of a long-overlooked thoroughfare. could be a welcome addition to Tom's, Island Spice, and the roti spot down near Bergen.
