Cafe Marimba replaced by Mamacita...any news?

Pssst | Nov 8, 2005 10:20 AM

Maybe I've been under a rock, but I just learned that Mamacita is opening/opened in the space that housed Cafe Marimba after getting a makeover (photographs on baby blue walls; ceilings hung with cigaro reed, star chandeliers and intricate metal balls). The chef is Sam Josi (from Slanted Door)who will be doing "classic Mexican dishes with a modern twist."

Well...good riddance to Cafe Marimba - it was very tired, having gone downhill ages ago.

I did a search but didn't find any posts about this. Is there any news? They were scheduled to open in early October - Are they open yet? Their website is still under construction - Does anyone know what the is menu like?

Could it be possible that San Francisco is going to get another good sitdown Mexican restaurant? I say "another" because I'm counting Maya (I'm not a fan of Sandoval, but I can't deny his food is good quality) and Tres Agaves (I'm assuming they'll work out their opening kinks).
