Went to Cafe Hiro for dinner on Sunday night. There were 6 adults and 3 kids for dinner. Got there are 6:30 and were promptly seated. However it tokk another ten minutes to get our menus. After the menus arrived we ordered drinks. Water for most and a few sodas and stuff. The sodas and teas all arrived shortly but the water. Well lets just say that I could have gone to the local stoire and bought some and been back before we were ever served water (30 minutes+) I chalked it up to them being busy.
Next came ordering dinner. I had called earlier in the day and they said that they could do a tasting menu for us. hoever when I asked, the waiter said no and shrugged me off.
Oh well. So we oredred some appitizers. Had the crab cakes (SUCKED the one ate the Aquarium of the Pacific tasted better); uni and tai tempura (okay); beef salad (not bad); and the steamed clams (best of the lot).
We then wanted to order and the waiter would not take our order until we finally instsisted on it. He took our order. 2 Sea Bass with Foi Gras (awesome); 2 Duck and risotto (pretty good); 1 Shrimp and risotto (pretty good); 1 pasta special (the 6 year old liked it); 1 1/2 orders of mushroom risotto for the 4 year since the 1/2 order was no wheres enough for him; and an osso bucco (good).
The food when it finally arrived, arrived in stages. The kids got their foods first. About 5 minutes later the fishes and duck arrived followed shortly by the shrimp. My osso bucco was another story. It arrive 5 minutes later. Then I was asked if I wanted rice or bread. I asked for rice which took a few minutes to get. Finally when I was done with the osso bucco, I got my vegatables that came with the piece of meat.
On to dessert, we ordered the panna cotta, creme bulee, and sorbet. All were good.
Food was okay but the service was the worst I have ever had. People who showed up after us got their food before us. Could never get water to save our lifes. The door was left open and there were flies everywhere.
The topper to the whole night was i had called and told them it was for a birthday! Well not candle, no dessert, no nothing!
So after paying the bill and leaving a very minimal tip. I was confronted by my waiter wanting to know why i left such a small tip.
Needless to say he did not get it! I did not feel like going over the whole problem and let him not that I was simply not satisfied with the service or lack there of!
I definately will not be returning! INHO there are plenty of restaurants that I can go to and not have to deal with this bad service.
